La Vinya del Vuit (The Wine of the Eight) was founded in 2001 by a group of eight friends; Sara Perez, René Barbier IV, Ester Nin, Nuria Perez, Montse Mateos, Iban Foix, Julien and Philippe Thévenon Basté. These eight friends happen to also be the very families that were pioneers in the 1970s in the appellation and collectively are to credit for Priorat’s elevated status and prowess. The oenological pedigree behind this cuvée is nearly unparalleled and quickly gained a cult-like following amongst the wine trade and seasoned collectors of Spanish wine.
The label changes with each vintage and is exclusively designed by friend and fellow oenophile Joan Josep Bertran at JJ Bertran, an international award-winning graphic design studio based in Barcelona, Spain.
René Barbier IV and his wife, Sara Perez, are the lead oenologists for La Vinya del Vuit and make it at Clos Mogador. Perez is considered by many to be of the important winemakers in Spain. She is also a wine consultant, the oenologist at Mas Martinet and Venus la Universal with her husband René Barbier IV.
