Vinos Del Viento are original, limited production, high-altitude wines grown passionately in Spain. Aragón, Spain, is the origin of many wonderful grape varieties, and we feel that it is necessary to use these grapes in our wines and strive to transmit their true and pure essence. Michael Cooper is a “Vine Hunter” and has searched out high-altitude, old-vines and dry-farmed vineyards. Their unique microclimates and indigenous century-old clone strands make some of the most original wines in the world. We are aware of global warming, so we collect rainwater and dry-farm, exclude chemicals, employ 100% renewable energy in the winery, and use locally fabricated lightweight bottles made from recycled materials.
Michael Cooper has been fortunate enough to have lived in Spain since he was 23. He moved there to be with Rosario, his life partner. You could say he went on an adventure for love and ‘Aventura Por Amor’. He has had the opportunity to make wines in several wine regions, especially in Aragon, where he and his wife have built their winery in Campo de Borja. Vinos del Viento is a name inspired by the strong winds in the Ebro River Valley that can often reach 50 kilometres per hour, the ‘Cierzo’ wind.
He is committed to his philosophy of combining innovation and tradition, and produces a range of wines that reflect this approach. Each wine has its distinctive character, shaped by the varieties and specific terroir of the vineyards. Michael has pioneered the area, making wines from single vineyards with old vines, which he believes are “unique treasures to preserve and share with the world.” At the moment, his vineyards are going through the process of becoming organic and are cared for with biodynamic preparations. All the wines in the Los Angeles line follow the guidelines of “Vins Méthode Nature,” the recently established French certification for natural wines. Additionally, the orange wine “Amber” and its new ancestral sparkling wine, “Wannabe,” adhere to these principles.
Michael’s creations are special in that they reflect the delicate aromas and flavours of the unique terroirs, taking into account the mesoclimates, soils, varieties, grapes and indigenous yeasts. They are grown with minimal intervention and with care to create joy in the glass.
