Domaine Rolly Gassmann Haguenau de Rorschwihr Gewurztraminer VT

Description

Domaine Rolly Gassmann’s Haguenau de Bergheim Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives is a late-harvest sweet wine from the Haguenau plateau above Bergheim, a high east–south-east facing site at around 310 m on magnesia-rich Keuper dolomitic clays and marls. This lacustrine terroir, unusually rich in magnesium (over 4,500 ppm), produces Gewurztraminer with a marked saline character, relatively low acidity and high natural ripeness, further concentrated by passerillage and fine botrytis. The resulting wine is powerfully structured and sweet, with flavours of overripe yellow and dried fruits, subtle roasted notes and a long, salty–mineral finish; the estate highlights it as particularly suited to spicy dishes (including wasabi-accented cuisine) and goose foie gras.
