Domaine Rolly Gassmann Moenchreben de Rorschwihr Auxerrois

Description

The Moenchreben de Rorschwihr Auxerrois comes from the historic Moenchreben lieu-dit (“vine of the monks”) on the low hill just east and north of Rorschwihr, cultivated since at least the year 700. The vines lie around 210–225 m on gently sloping south and north-east–facing exposures, on very stony, clayey–marly silts over sandy-gravelly clays, part of early Pleistocene colluvial deposits resting on blue-grey Tertiary marls. About 40% of the site is planted to Auxerrois, which here produces a gastronomic, food-friendly style that the domaine recommends with ham, poultry, smoked salmon, pasta and other creamy dishes. At the estate level, Moenchreben wines are considered long-lived, with a typical drinking window of 4 to 30 years after the vintage, depending on the year and style.
