Domaine Rolly Gassmann’s Oberer Weingarten de Rorschwihr Gewurztraminer comes from the “upper wine garden” lieu-dit above Rorschwihr, a 6 ha south- and east-facing slope at 225–260 m with clay-silt soils strewn with siliceous pebbles and limestones from ancient Quaternary deposits. These warm, stony soils favour very ripe, often partially botrytised Gewurztraminer, giving intensely aromatic wines with pronounced rose-petal, exotic fruit and spice notes, a rich, rounded palate and noticeable sweetness balanced by fresh acidity and a long, spicy, mineral finish. This cuvée is particularly well suited to blue cheeses, rich pâtés, aromatic Asian dishes and fruit-based desserts, and has very good potential for ageing.
