Domaine Rolly Gassmann’s Oberer Weingarten de Rorschwihr Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles is an intensely sweet, botrytised dessert wine from one of the estate’s top south / south-east–facing sites above Rorschwihr. The Oberer Weingarten vineyard lies on deep, stony glacial and interglacial deposits of sand, gravel, clay and crushed limestone, which naturally produce very concentrated grapes with high sugar and aromatic ripeness. Made only in exceptional vintages from hand-selected, nobly rotten Gewurztraminer berries, the wine is deep golden in colour with complex aromas of exotic fruit, honey, spice and citrus marmalade, and a luscious, creamy, very sweet palate balanced by sufficient acidity to keep the finish long and precise. It is designed for long ageing and is particularly suited to blue cheeses, mature hard cheeses and rich fruit-based desserts.
