Domaine Rolly Gassmann’s Pinot Gris is sourced from several limestone-rich vineyards around Rorschwihr and neighbouring villages, including sites with sandy clay-loam soils over oolitic limestone and fossil-rich Muschelkalk. Made in an off-dry, medium-sweet style (around 13% alcohol, no obvious oak), it typically shows generous flavours of quince, ripe stone fruit, ginger and fresh and dried orange peel, with the estate’s hallmark sweetness kept in check by crisp acidity and a mineral finish. This is a versatile food wine, well suited to pâté, poultry in creamy sauces, mildly spiced curries, mushrooms and richer fish dishes, and can comfortably age for many years in bottle.
