The Riesling Pflaenzerreben de Rorschwihr is a single-vineyard wine from the historic Pflaenzerreben lieu-dit, documented since 1092, on east to north-east facing slopes (205–230 m) just south of Rorschwihr. Vines here grow on rubefied sandy clay-loam and silty clays covered by a thin Quaternary gravel veneer rich in oolitic limestone and silicified Muschelkalk, soils that warm slowly and encourage very gradual, complete ripening and high mineral concentration in the grapes. The wine typically shows pale straw colour with green highlights, floral and citrus aromas, and a complex, intense palate where Rolly Gassmann’s hallmark touch of residual sweetness is balanced by vibrant acidity and a long, mineral finish.
