Domaine Rolly Gassmann’s Rotleibel de Rorschwihr Auxerrois comes from the Rotleibel lieu-dit on the northern side of Rorschwihr, a south- and east-facing slope at around 195–215 m altitude. The 17-ha site has brown, loam–clay–marl soils over ancient alluvial gravels rich in limestone and other stones, with a fine loess layer on top that reflects heat and promotes even ripening. About half of the vineyard is planted to Auxerrois, which here gives a supple, textural white wine showing ripe orchard-fruit character, moderate alcohol and naturally fresh acidity. The domaine recommends it as a versatile food wine, especially with tarte flambée, pizzas, pork and poultry dishes, and it is typically ready to drink from around 3 to 12 years after the vintage.
