Karl Schaefer Riesling Michelsberg

Description

A steep limestone reef from the primeval sea that has not been reclaimed and faces directly south. Unusual Rieslings with sweet spice and hints of dried fruit thrive in the heat, always retaining their complex structure and distinctiveness thanks to the mineral grit. An expansive, soft fragrance with a base of juicy peach and tropical mango, accompanied by a hint of coconut. This is joined by sweet honeydew melon, dried figs and spicy rum raisins, which conjure up a beguilingly sweet fragrance. It’s amazing what Riesling can do. The palate is expansive, but not ponderous, with very present acidity due to the vintage, which is kept in check by the impressive minerality. Lots of tension in the mouth and despite its imposing stature, the wine moves light-footedly and dancily across the tongue. On the palate, yellow lemon zest and grapefruit with a hint of exoticism and an extremely dense mouthfeel that only fades very slowly in the finish.

Food recommendation: A wine that can also accompany strong dishes well. My favorite: Rump steak with fried onions and
roast potatoes. More elegant with fried fish with roasted hazelnuts, tagliatelle and a lemon and butter sauce.
